As you can see from the selection of images on this web site, the inventory of photographs at Charles Schwartz Ltd. is both wide ranging and eclectic. While those searching for photographs by well known masters of the medium will be sure to find plenty of interesting works here, one should be prepared to be dazzled by amazing photographs created by photographers who are obscure to most of the world. Alongside works by such familiar names as Walker Evans and Edward Steichen, we have a collection of Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper photographs from the 1950's, hand-colored photographs of French criminals from the 1920's, important, historic photographs of New York City and Central Park, and a suite of photographs from the archives of the U.S. Steel Company, among many others.

The inventory at Charles Schwartz Ltd. is not only diverse, but deep - containing bodies of work by particular photographers and genres. We have one of the largest selection of W. Eugene Smith photographs available, many of which can be found on this website. We also maintain strong representation of works by Berenice Abbott, Ralph Steiner, Samuel Gottscho. Our 19th Century inventory contains numerous daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes. We have an outstanding selection of 19th Century images of people with animals, reflecting Charles Schwartz's longstanding interest in this genre. We also have a substantial inventory of works by Hill and Adamson, Victor Prevost, Felice Beato and Dr. John Murray, among others. Charles Schwartz also has a deep interest in Japan, and has an extensive inventory of 19th and 20th Century Japanese photographs, including rare ambrotypes.

We participate in one or two art fairs per year, including the AIPAD Photography show in New York. A strong part of our business involves working with institutions; many of the pieces in our inventory have been shown in major museum shows. We also collaborate with public galleries.
