| Description: Rare, vintage print. Image is from a photo essay done for LIFE Magazine. The negatives from this series were lost, and there are only copy prints known to exist. Eugene Smith spoke of this photo essay as the most rewarding he had ever done. The print is accompanied by a reproduction of the original 12 page article from the December 1951 issue of LIFE magazine.
Provenance: Personal Collection of Juanita Smith, Eugene Smith's daughter.(A scan of letter from Juanita is provided, detailing her ownership of the photograph, and that the negatives were lost during her move from Croton-on-the-Hudson.)
