Proof that famed photojournalist Smith had within his ouevre a range of emotional and aesthetic possibilities is evidenced by this small but powerful study. The mother, almost reduced to a dark silhouette, bows her head forward as her child peeks backward out of a blanket around her neck. Sea, sky and mountain in the distance add a gently indistinct backdrop. 1 |
