Description: A young musician sits poised with two drumsticks in hand, one over a drum that rests at an angle on a wooden platform placed on a table. He holds perfectly still, and gazes straight at the camera. His clothing is traditional and fairly ornate, including a high, two-toned hat. Note his traditional sandals, and the setting, which appears to be a shajo, or portable outdoor studio. He seems to be a part of a Shinto ritual, traditionally part of the Autumn festivities. Wonderful calligraphic inscriptions in ink are found on the case lid surface, translated to mean "O Shashin" - Photograph. Inscription on the case bottom reads "Meiji Juroku, dai kegatsu" - Meji year 16 (1883), ninth month (September). An oval stamp in red ink graces the inner case lid. It gives the studio name "Seiyudo Shashin Dokoro" (Seiyudo Photo Studio), the location - Mikawa , Tottori-shi (Tottori City). 1
