Description: The high hair styles these women wear tell a story of the time period of the Russo-Japanese War. The style is named after the "203 Meter Hill" a battle area in December, 1904 and January, 1905. The battle included not only 203 Meter Hill, but also the North Fort on East Kikwan Hill, outside Port Arthur (in Russia). The women, who wear kimonos, coats, and sandals are quite similar in appearance. The patterned paper case in which the glass plate it tucked is quite unusual--b&w patterns are on the outside, and red-and-gold patterns appear on the inside flap. 1
