In his 1965 Christmas card, McBean paid tribute to his hobby of collecting and dealing in figurines and antiques. This photograph was the front image of the card.

McBean, a singular talent in 20th-century portraiture, was known for his unique ability to incorporate surrealist elements into complex, highly crafted compositions in which no detail was left untouched.
