Description: Behemoth U.S. Steel was in its heyday when this picture was taken—the company employed 340,000 workers in 1943. (Today, the majority of the plants the company documented in this project are no longer in existence.) A well-composed vertical vista that sets both blast furnace and smokestack against a bright sky. Good tonal range, print in good condition, considering age. Full documentation, including artist's name and location, on verso. Note small mark on left side just above building. 1
