Description: In this powerful image documenting industrial labor conditions, an African-American worker loads finished rails into flat cars for shipment. Behemoth U.S. Steel was in its heyday when this picture was taken—the company employed 340,000 workers in 1943. Today, the majority of the plants the company documented in this project are no longer in existence. Print in good condition. Full documentation on verso. 1
